White beard

White beard is a response to a challenge: Several friends from Austin informed me that I don’t use enough loops in my music.  I therefore set about the task of creating a piece that uses looping sounds and repetition, but making them subservient to my compositional desires.  The material I used was assorted samples from my hard drive, some from my own recording sessions, others collected long ago from unremembered Internet sources.  The text selection is from “Waiting for Godot” by Samuel Beckett, and is spoken by my wife Joanna and my friend Mariana.

performances

White Beard has been performed numerous times, most recently on May 19, 2006 at the Sonic Arts Research Centre of the Queen's University Belfast, Ireland.
